Club Capcom (クラブ☆カプコン) was an official information magazine by Capcom, distributed among members of their fan club in 1993 and 1994[1]. The magazine was published in flat-bound A4 format[1] and included information on several of Capcom's video games, as well as sections with exposition, official art galleries, interviews, etc. Considered an experimental booklet[2] , it lasted only 3 issues due to its printing costs[1]. It served as the foundation for Capcom's newsletter CFC Style Fan-Book Cap![2], released in 1996.
Strider content
Club Capcom only released three issues before being discontinued. Strider content was only featured in issue #0, which included a two-page full artwork spread displaying original art, an unique prologue text and short profiles for Hiryu, the three Options, his Cypher and Climb Sickle. This is of notable interest as the information published appears to have been transcribed from the original setting document, as it includes obscure details not mentioned anywhere else (Hiryu being born in a Tungus village in 2030) and plot details that are shared with the original manga (Hiryu retiring from active duty 2 years before the start of the story as in the manga). There's also a preview of the then-upcoming Sharp X68000 port.
While the issue also has an interview with Hiroshi Motomiya, founder of Moto Kikaku, it is focused on Capcom's licensed games based on his manga Tenshi wo Kurau.
Issue #2 includes a reference to the series' backstory as well. In a section where Dr. Light from Mega Man answers fan questions, he is inquired about the meaning of the word "Strider", and he responds that it means "He who runs across fields"/"Field Runner" (野を馳せる者)[3]. This is the actual established meaning of the word as given in the manga's first chapter and the Capcom Gamebooks accompanying the PlayStation port, probably showing the writer has access to the game's setting document.
