Material (マテリアル) is a boss from Cannon Dancer, faced as the game's first boss in the first stage.
Information
Material is a glowing statue of what appears to be a large woman with cyan skin, gold clothing and a gold horned skull mask covering her face. A second, smaller woman statue can be seen sitting on the back of its head; while a third, male statue with a gold belt and horned helmet stands next to its legs. Material is a defense machine used by the Slaver cult, kept underground near the Nozawa Bank's parking lot, beneath a limousine. When Kirin arrives at the area, the helmet-less soldier stands on top of the limousine and, after gesturing with his hand, has the statue rise up in order to fight Kirin.
Material's attacks are projected from the area around the horns on its mask. First off, it constantly projects a lightning bolt that moves at the left side of the screen, but unless Kirin willingly approaches it the attack is completely harmless. Material's other attack is to constantly release two types of projectiles: the first is a fireball shot at an arc, moving to the right in a mostly straight path; the second is a butterfly of energy that slowly flies towards Kirin. Both projectiles are not particularly fast and can even be destroyed with basic attacks. The only weak point on this boss is its skull mask/face, so Kirin has to strike at it while avoiding the many projectiles it sends his way.
After a certain amount of hits Material's mask breaks off and it changes patterns, now releasing a large amount of butterflies radiating outwards all over the screen. They can also be destroyed by attacking, but their bigger numbers and faster speed makes this a more hectic fight.
