strider

A Tiger () is a predatory animal and the largest feline in modern times. Tigers make a brief appearance in the Strider Hiryu manga, and they are stage enemies in the series' spiritual successor, Cannon Dancer.

Not to be confused with the Chinese Mafia member Tiger Form from Strider 2. For the Saber-toothed tiger machine, go to Option B.

Kubira's flashback, showing Hiryu killing several tigers

Tigers are only briefly mentioned. While discussing Hiryu's inhuman skills to his partner Arana, Kubira reminiscences about his time with Hiryu in the Striders' training program and how terrifying he was. As he does so, the flashback scene shows a younger Hiryu having just killed a number of tigers with his bare hands, without any visible injury.[1]

This is the only glimpse given of the Striders' brutal training program, which has a surviving rate of only 10%.

Cannon Dancer

Appears in Stage 2 (Slaver Temple) and Stage 5 (Woods near Aleppo)

Kirin faces off against common black-stripped orange tigers during his quest for revenge. The first time is during his infiltration of Agadan. After breaking through a building's wall he is faced by two tigers waiting inside it. The tigers prance around until Kirin comes close, at which point they stand ready and either lunge forward or perform a short hop at him, trying to strike with their claws. When hit by one of Kirin's attacks, the tiger leaps backwards and then either performs a long jump or a dash across the screen, after which it resumes its attack as normal. Tigers can be a nuisance due to their quickness and tendency to move all around Kirin. They can also be grabbed using one of Kirin's throw moves for good damage, although doing so risks getting struck by their attacks in the process.

Kirin faces tigers a second time during his trek through the Forest of Memory, where they are usually found near large water dragons known as Mizuchi. They behave the same way, although in this instance they are harder to deal with when in the company of a Mizuchi and while fighting the strong water currents of the area. Taking the upper path across the forest bypass them completely, however.
